Ladakh flood disaster

August 18, 2010

We are all aware of the colossal monsoon in the Indian sub-continent this year and the floods that have overtaken Pakistan, recently this tragedy has also overtaken the Indian principality of Ladakh.  Like Bhutan this Himalayan area has kept its Buddhist roots and now its people are suffering more than I can imagine.  Margaret at Rigul Trust has received the following message from Khenpo Rangdol, a native of Ladakh who is appealing for our assistance.  Rigul Trust are sending aid and I am posting his message unedited.

I hope you are doing well. I am not very happy to share this news, there was flood disaster happen in Ladakh everywhere.

I hope  you aware that hundreds of people lost their precious life and belongings and hundreds of people lost their home.
My family are well but there was also huge damage at the river side.  My brother and sister came from ladakh and I had a long discussion with my brother and I was shocked to see some videos from my village call Tingmosgang. Our village areas had huge damaged of fields and trees most at the river side and five houses were completely wash away

First let me express that you are so kind person and compassionate to help anywhere, anytime, to anybody. I really rejoice to your noble deeds and I am sure all these positive activities will bring lots of benefit to everywhere. Those kinds of activities are really something so practical. I always tell to people that one must do things practically rather than keep saying. That is one of the main teachings of Buddha.

Our project is trying collect donation for Ladakh disaster and from everywhere. As you have good link with people it would be so kind if you also could do some fundraise for this disaster that would be very benefit for those people.

Our society is registered in 1989 and recently we got FCR means legally we allow to receive donations from foreign country.

We have been helping many social ways such as finding sponsors for poor children and old age people.
Restore old building and planting many trees for environments issue and etc. Here I am forwarding our brochure there you can see all our activities and bank account in details.

Currently, I am the president of our society and you can contact me if you need further requirements. Actually, I like to go to Ladakh but I can’t go now because of the summer retreat. I am thinking to go there after the summer retreat and whatever donations we get will be distributed.

Today I got a call from a friend of mine from Ladakh and he did say that they really need lots of help from all over the world.
I would like to extend my heartiest thank you very much for your help in advance. I attached some photos so pls find it

With lots of prayers.

HH Karmapa live webcast

May 28, 2010

So after many trials and tribulations His Holiness was able to speak to many sentient beings – for those who were able to see the webcast it was a moving experience to say the least.  The teachings will soon be available to view again but in the meantime you can click here for audio of most of His Holiness’ webcast.

Personally I was stunned by His Holiness’ vision and clarity, particularly when he spoke of our connection with regard to others; those whose actions vex us.   “Feel as if it’s our own selves”.  Can I really empathise as if those who push my limits of loving kindness are acting as I might act?

Official Announcement from the Karmapa’s Office with regard to the European Tour

Official Announcement from the Karmapa’s Office

Posted: 20 Apr 2010 03:38 AM PDT

April 20, 2010

The Karmapa’s Office of Administration (Tsurphu Labrang) would like to express its sincerest regrets and sadness that the Dharma tour program of His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa to Europe could not take place for reasons which have not yet been disclosed. We understand that this has created a lot of disappointment and frustration. However, we would like to request the many followers and devotees of His Holiness to take heart and not cast aspersion on any organization or government body for the cancellation of the tour.

We wish to thank the Government of India for all the assistance, hospitality and kindness that His Holiness Gyalwang Karmapa has received after his arrival to India in the year 2000. We also thank Ven. Ringu Tulku and the organizers of the Europe Dharma Tour who have put in a lot of time and effort for many months in spite of their busy schedule and other commitments.

His Holiness’ announcement has said, “I hope that this is merely a temporary setback and that I will definitely be able to visit Europe in the near future.” Remembering this, we urge all to remain calm and collected.

HH Karmapa’s visit to Europe postponed

April 16, 2010

I am sorry to say that it has been confirmed that His Holiness’ visit to Europe has been postponed. Please see Ringu Tulku’s message below.

“I am sad to announce that the proposed visit of His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje was not approved by the Government of India. The visit was scheduled to take place from 27th May to 2nd July in nine countries of Europe. The Kagyu Office, the Administration of Gyalwang Karmapa was informed of the decision by the Tibetan Government in Exile on 3rd April 2010.

The process has begun to find out why this visit was not possible and what positive conditions are needed to make the visit possible in near future. I know a huge number of followers and friends in Europe were eagerly waiting for the visit of Gyalwang Karmapa and I know that all of you are sad and disappointed.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the organisers, volunteers and donors for working so hard to prepare for the visit in last many months. Your cooperation and support were beyond any expectations. I hope and pray together with you that the visit will happen in very near future and that all of us would be able to receive his teachings in Europe.

Ringu Tulku, Coordinator, Karmapa’s Visit to Europe”

A Statement from the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje

April 16, 2010

I know that the Co-ordinator of Karmapa in Europe 2010, has already notified everyone that my proposed visit has had to be cancelled for reasons beyond my control. I was very much looking forward to meeting with my European students, visiting your dharma centres, giving teachings, and having the opportunity to gain first-hand experience and insight into the great variety of European life and culture.

I was wholeheartedly preparing for this visit so you will understand that I too was sad and disappointed when I learned that I would not be able to come this time. However, I hope that this is merely a temporary setback and that I will definitely be able to visit Europe in the near future.

It remains for me to express my gratitude to Ringu Tulku and all of you in the different countries and dharma centres who have worked so hard to prepare for the visit. Please be assured that your work has not been in vain or wasted. By these efforts, you have planted a powerful seed and when it reaches fruition my intention to come to Europe will be fulfilled.
Meanwhile, my aspiration and vision remain firm. I am determined to follow in the footsteps of the 16th Gyalwang Karmapa, renewing connections with long-standing students and forging a closer relationship with all my European friends, past, present and future.
